Domain name statistics FAQ
257.3 million domains were registered across the 953 extensions that publish zone files, as of Oct 19, 2026. .com alone had 167.8 million. Most country extensions, including .uk, .de, .ai, .io, and .co, don’t publish zone files and aren’t counted, so the total across every extension is higher.
In the 30 days to Oct 19, 2026, .baby grew fastest, by 72.6%, followed by .study at 59%. Only extensions with at least 10,000 domains rank, so a few hundred new names can’t top the list. By count, .com grew the most: 1,088,472 more domains than 30 days before.
In the 30 days to Oct 19, 2026, .skin shrank fastest, by 32%, to 116,776 domains. By count, .shop lost the most: 65,747 fewer domains than 30 days before.
From the zone files that domain registries publish every day. A zone file lists every domain in an extension that has name servers, so a domain registered without them isn’t counted. We count each file and keep the totals for every day back to 2016.
Our archive is missing some extensions’ zone files for some months. The chart leaves those months out and draws a dashed line across them, rather than estimate a count.
