An aftermarket domain is a domain name that has already been registered and is being resold by its current owner. These domains are listed on marketplaces like Afternic, Sedo, GoDaddy Auctions, Atom, and Sav. They range from short brandable .coms to keyword-rich names with established backlinks and search history. Some are listed at fixed prices you can buy instantly; others are available through auction or open to offers. Aftermarket domains are different from expired domains, which are names whose previous registration lapsed and are becoming available again.
Each marketplace only shows its own inventory. Search on Sedo and you won't see Afternic listings. Search on GoDaddy Auctions and you'll miss Atom and Sav inventory. Instant Domain Search queries all of them at the same time and shows results in a single feed as you type. You see prices from every marketplace side by side without opening five browser tabs. This is the same approach we take with our main domain search (which checks 8 registrars simultaneously) and our extensions page (which checks 800+ TLDs at once).
We aggregate listings from Afternic (GoDaddy's aftermarket platform), Sedo, Atom, Sav, DomainAgents, Snapnames, and several other platforms. Each marketplace has exclusive inventory that doesn't appear anywhere else. By searching them all simultaneously, you see domains you'd never find on any single platform. We're constantly adding new marketplace integrations to expand coverage.
Prices range from under $100 for basic names to millions for premium short .coms. Most listings fall into three categories: buy-now domains (fixed price, typically $100–$5,000), auction domains (starting bid varies, you compete with other buyers), and make-offer domains (you propose a price and negotiate). Length, keywords, extension, and existing traffic/backlinks all affect pricing. Instant Domain Search shows you the listed price from each marketplace so you can compare. For standard unregistered domains at regular registration prices, use our main domain search or domain name generator instead.
Yes. When you click through from our search results, you're buying directly from established marketplaces like Afternic, Sedo, and GoDaddy Auctions. These platforms handle escrow, payment processing, and domain transfer with buyer protections built in. Instant Domain Search doesn't process any payments or handle any transfers. We connect you to the source marketplace and they handle everything from there. For more on how we approach security, see our security page.
Aftermarket domains are any previously registered domains being resold by their current owners on marketplaces. Premium domains are high-value names priced above standard registration rates, either by registries (new registrations) or by sellers (aftermarket). Expired domains are names whose registration lapsed and are going through the expiration process. There's overlap: a premium domain can be listed on the aftermarket, and expired domains often end up in auctions. This page searches aftermarket listings. For expired and expiring names, use our expired domains tool.
The best domain names were registered years ago. If you want a short, memorable .com that matches your brand or keywords, it's probably already taken. Aftermarket domains give you access to names that would otherwise be unavailable. Many come with existing backlinks, domain authority, and even residual traffic from previous websites, giving you an SEO head start. For businesses doing cold outreach, aftermarket domains are also useful for securing clean sending domains. Read our guide on buying and selling domain names for strategies.
This page focuses on domains actively listed for sale on aftermarket marketplaces. For domains that have expired or are about to expire, use our dedicated expired domains tool. It tracks expiring domain auctions and pending-delete domains across platforms. Expired domains can be a great source of affordable names with existing backlinks and traffic. If you're not sure what you're looking for yet, start with our main domain search which shows registered availability, aftermarket listings, and AI suggestions all in one view.
