Domain name statistics across 953 extensions

How fast is .app growing? Which domain extensions added the most names over the last month, and which ones are losing registrations?

The new Domain name statistics page answers those questions directly from daily registry zone files. As of October 19, 2026, it tracks 257.3M registered domains across 953 extensions, including 10.9M new registrations in the last 30 days, and pairs an interactive historical chart with 30-day growth and contraction leaderboards.

Monthly registration history back to 2016

At the top of the page, the chart plots monthly zone-file totals for 58 domain extensions with multi-year history, most of them back to 2016. It opens on .app, which grew +88.6% over the last 12 months to 1,758,810 registered domains (+826,456 net names).

A dropdown lists those 58 extensions, largest first. .com has 167.8M domains (+6.4% in 12 months), .net 12.4M, .org 12.2M, .xyz 11.2M (+65.1%), .shop 4.3M, .online 3.6M, .store 2.1M, and .tech 598K. When a registry archive has a missing month, the chart bridges the gap with a dashed line rather than inventing an estimate.

The Growing in the last 30 days section on Domain name statistics. Fastest growing shows .baby (+72.6%), .study (+59.0%), and .cam (+25.4%). Most new domains shows .com (+1,088,472), .xyz (+967,274), and .app (+105,507).

30-day growing and shrinking leaderboards

Percentage growth and raw registration volume tell very different stories, so the 30-day leaderboards split them into side-by-side tables.

  • Fastest growing ranks extensions with at least 10,000 registered domains by 30-day percentage increase, led by .baby (+72.6%), .study (+59.0%), and .cam (+25.4%).
  • Most new domains ranks extensions by net domains added over the last 30 days, led by .com (+1,088,472), .xyz (+967,274), and .app (+105,507).
  • Shrinking fastest and Most domains lost show the other side of the zone files: extensions where deletions outnumbered new registrations over the last 30 days, such as .skin (-32.0%) and .shop (-65,747 domains).
The Shrinking in the last 30 days section on Domain name statistics. Shrinking fastest shows .skin (-32.0%), .autos (-30.4%), and .loan (-11.8%). Most domains lost shows .shop (-65,747), .autos (-64,938), and .info (-59,523).

Live zone-file totals on the Domain Extensions directory

We also connected the main Domain Extensions directory to the same daily zone-file dataset. A new Most registered domain extensions table ranks the top 15 extensions that publish a public zone file by active domain count, alongside their 30-day net change and percentage growth. The twelve featured extension cards show a registration count too. .ai, .io, .co, and .me use a hand-entered total, because those registries do not publish a zone file. Other cards, including .shop, do not show a count.

The Most registered domain extensions table on the Domain Extensions page, showing .com at 167,775,350 registered domains (+1,088,472 in 30 days), .net at 12,438,718, .org at 12,199,071, and .xyz at 11,191,920.

Frequently asked questions

Where do these registration numbers come from?

Every count on the statistics page comes from daily registry zone files for the 953 extensions we track. A domain is counted when it appears in the zone file with active nameservers.

Why are some country-code extensions missing from the tables?

Most country-code registries, such as .ai, .de, .uk, and .ca, do not publish public daily zone files. Rather than guessing their size from incomplete scans, the statistics page only includes the 953 extensions where we can count zone records directly.

Why does the historical chart show a dashed line on some months?

A dashed segment marks a month where a registry snapshot is missing from our archive. We draw a dashed line across the gap so you can tell real monthly observations apart from missing data.
