The biggest sites on each extension
Semrush estimates the visits each site gets from Google search. twitch.tv is the busiest site here, with 10.2 million a month. .gg belongs to games: five .gg sites get more than a million each, led by wiki.gg at 5.3 million. On .ai, perplexity.ai and claude.ai are close, at 2.4 and 2.3 million. .xyz added 1.33 million domains in October, but only eight of the .xyz sites we checked passed 1,000 visits.

Semrush’s estimates of each site’s monthly visits from Google searches in the country named above its board, read on Oct 29. The sites are registered domains among the million Chrome users visited most in September 2026, so a platform’s hosts, like github.io’s, aren’t sites of their own. Adult, piracy, gambling, government, downloader, link and random video chat sites are left out. Sources: Semrush and the Chrome UX Report.
State of Domains FAQs
Most country-code extensions, including .uk, .de, .ai, .io and .co, don’t publish zone files, so they aren’t counted here. The globe still shows .ai, as a ring: an estimate from SecurityTrails’ count of the .ai domains it sees in DNS, which no total or ranking here includes. .si doesn’t either, but Register.si publishes its totals and new registrations every day, so it’s counted from those. .se joined our counts on October 20 with 1.46 million domains, and .nu’s file is still settling in, so both are left out of this month’s new and net numbers.
Source: Register.si
Most numbers here come from the zone files that domain registries publish each day. A zone file lists every domain in an extension that has name servers, so a domain registered without them isn’t counted.
.si has no zone file, so its numbers are the domain totals and new registrations that its registry, Register.si, publishes and updates every day. See Register.si’s numbers.
New registrations are domains that appear in a zone file on the days shown with them, and a name registered again after it dropped counts again. Net growth is the change in domains from Sep 30 to Oct 31. For .si, they’re the new registrations the registry counts.
Most other country-code extensions don’t publish zone files, so the totals leave them out. An extension whose zone file starts or breaks during the month is left out of that month’s change counts. This month that’s .nu and .se. 336 small extensions, with 7,196 domains between them, count toward the totals and new registrations but not net growth, since Instant History doesn’t list them by name. Their count is from Nov 2, as Instant History only totals them for its latest day.
.ai is on the globe as a ring: an estimate from SecurityTrails’s count of the domains it sees in DNS, left out of every total and ranking.
